Australia’s famous road running event has a new name in it…
Australia’s famous road running event has a new name in it’s the 38th year. Strait Link have been confirmed as the new naming rights sponsor of the Strait Link Burnie 10.
In further major news, the Strait Link Burnie 10 will also host the Oceania Athletics 10km Championships for the first time.
Strait Link has a proud history of being a vital supply chain partner connecting businesses to mainland and world markets across the Bass Strait.
“We’re excited to sponsor this fantastic event that promotes Burnie, fun and fitness, and involves the whole community. Many of our employees get involved each year.” Gary Allen CEO Strait Link said.
Athletics from around Oceania will be keen to test themselves out on the course which still holds the Australian Allcomers records of 28:03 (Stewart McSweyn in 2018) and 31:42 (Kylie Risk in 1999).
“Last year was a learning curve for us as new organisers. Having delivered one event our team has had an opportunity to identify areas for improvement and we’ve enjoyed that creative phase. Now here we are with a new major partner and an international announcement.
“This event is so iconic and well known, with rich local history, it must continue to captivate people of all fitness levels both locally and from afar,” Race Director Richard Welsh said.
Competition Manager for Oceania Athletics Tom O’Shaugnessy said the Strait Link Burnie 10 was the ideal event to host their title.
“Oceania Athletics is pleased to have the 10km Road Championships held in Burnie in 2022. Burnie has a long history of attracting the best runners to race there, and in 2022 will be no different. We look forward to seeing Oceania best head to Burnie,” O’Shaugnessy said, who will be assisting the event in attracting athletes to the event from across Oceania.
Over 1700 entrants participated in the event in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic. Now with Covid event restrictions lifting across the world, entrants are reminded that the current restrictions don’t require social distancing or masks, which will be refreshing news to many potential entrants.
